Sept. 2 is special non-working day in Albay

Legazpi City (15 August) -- Albay province is one among the seven localities covered by a series Presidential Proclamations that declare as special non-working days in five cities, one municipality and one province.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has declared the following dates as special non-working days in the five cities, one municipality and one province notably: Aug. 15, Tuguegarao; Aug. 20, Lucena; Aug. 30, Mandaue; Aug. 22, Davao; Aug. 28, Cagayan de Oro; Aug. 19, municipality of Angono, Rizal, and Sept. 2 in Albay province.

Proclamation No. 1584 signed on Aug. 11 declares Sep't. 2 as a special non-working day in Albay province to commemorate the 143rd birth anniversary of the late General Simeon A.Ola, the last revolutionary general to surrender at the end of the Philippine-American War.

"It is but fitting and proper that the people be given the full opportunity to celebrate the occasion with appropriate ceremonies," the Proclamation said. (PIA 5) [top]
