Oro mayor honors CSWDO exec after 42 years in public service

Cagayan de Oro City (15 August) -- "SERVICE to the people has merits."

This, in gist, was the message of City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula after he led City Hall officials and employees in paying tribute to the department head of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) who recently retired from the government service.

In a simple ceremony held yesterday at the City Tourism Hall, Mayor Jaraula presented former City Social Welfare and Development Officer Belen C. Galdo with a "Plaque of Merit and Appreciation" after serving as a public servant in a span of 42 years.

Mayor Jaraula particularly cited Galdo for her "…long, loyal and very productive service to the City of Cagayan de Oro in the field of social services, thus, greatly enhancing the lives of the people, especially of the disadvantaged and the less fortunate."

The citation given to Galdo came after the City Mayor bared plans to institutionalize the tribute as a simple token and accolades for the services rendered by all retiring City Hall department heads and chiefs of offices to the people and the City of Cagayan de Oro, in general.

City Councilors Roger Abaday and Zaldy Ocon, several department heads and chiefs of office and personnel from the CSWDO and other offices witnessed the late afternoon occasion.

In a related development, Mayor Jaraula led the opening and blessing of the New Tahanan Ng Kabataan situated in Barangay Lumbia, this city.

In his message, Mayor Jaraula called on philanthropists, kind-hearted individuals and civic groups of the city to donate basic amenities and recreational facilities in order to make the youth center a more pleasant and convenient place for the minor occupants.

The newly built P2.5-million worth city government-run boys' town center can accommodate at least 50 youth offenders and minors, and is expected to help decongest the densely-populated old youth center near the City Hospital.

City Councilors Dante Pajo, Simeon Licayan and Adrian Barba, City Hall department heads and chiefs of office and members of the barangay council of Lumbia led by chairman Wilhelm Valencia also graced the affair. (Cagayan de Oro City IO/PIA-MisOrOccCam i-Net) [top]
