Lapus graces 33rd anniversary of DepEd-8

Tacloban City (August 19) -- No less than Education Secretary Gesli A. Lapus is scheduled to be the Guest of Honor in the various activities lined up in connection with the 33rd Founding Anniversary celebration of the Department of Education Region 8, Director Sol F. Matugas informed.

Secretary Lapus is expected to arrive at noon of August 20. He will have lunch at the DepEd Leyte Division and is scheduled to conduct school visitations in two outstanding schools, the Marasbaras Elementary School and at the Sto. Nino SPED Center, both in Tacloban City.

Director Matugas said that the activities will revolve around the anniversary theme "Harnessing the Learning Environment for the Filipino Learners."

The celebration will start at 8:00 o'clock in the morning with a Mass to be officiated by Rev. Fr. Eduardo S. Rivera, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Holy Rosary Parish.

Health and Wellness screening activities will be conducted after the Mass. This will include BP, FBS, Cholesterol Testing, ECG taking. Medical and dental services will also be conducted together with Healthy Lifestyle activities such as the Malunggay Festival and the Pinoy Aerobics.

Among the highlights in the anniversary celebration is the Pasidungog (Tribute) and Stakeholders Night on August 20, 7:00 o'clock in the evening at the Regional Teachers Training Center, DepEd Regional Office 8 where the excellent education achievers who made DepEd Region 8 proud, will be recognized. The theme for this activity is "Nurturing Partnership for Effective Learning Environment."

Pasidungog, Director Matugas said, will be an occasion where tribute and recognition will be accorded the internal stakeholders, the winners of the Brigada Eskuwela and the external stakeholders and Local Government Units.

In the morning of the 21st, Secretary Lapus is scheduled to interact with the members of the local tri-media at 8:00 o'clock in the morning at the MacArthur Park Beach Resort.

During the Press conference, the turnover of the keys of responsibility to the respective City Mayors and Superintendent of the newly created City Divisions of Baybay, Catbalogan and Borongan will be conducted.

Another important activity in the Press Conference is the turnover of laptop computers by Dr. Ester Ogena, Director of DOST Science and Technology Institute to the science mentors.

Director Matugas added that Ribbon Cutting ceremonies for the Regional Library, New Regional Planning Unit Building, Child Minding Center and Display Booths on Best Practices, will also be conducted in the morning of August 21st.

The Teachers Forum with the theme "Forging Effective Learning Environments through Brilliance in Character," will be held at 10:00 o'clock in the morning with no less than Secretary Lapus delivering the Keynote Address. (PIA 8) [top]
