Basey bags 1st prize in float competition of Samar Day celebration

Tacloban City (August 19) -- The municipality of Basey once more showed that its being a home for beauty and artistry. This, as it emerged as champion in the Float Competition besting other entries from the various municipalities during the Samar Day celebration held in Catbalogan City recently.

Mayor Wilfredo Estorninos thru Basey information assistant, Bonavie M. Robinio, said that Basey paraded around Catbalogan City's major thoroughfares, a float embellished with a variety of banig products such as bags, slippers, wallets, wall decors, sleeping mats, and banig gown worn by a model.

The Float Competition was part of the various activities conducted in connection with the Samar Day Celebration spearheaded by Samar Governor Milagrosa Tan and Congresswoman of the Second District of Samar Sharee Ann Tan.

The colorful parade of floats was a manifestation of the ingenuity and the artistry of the people of Samar, Congresswoman Tan said. The success of the Float Competition is inspiring, she added.

The Competition was participated in by entries from fourteen municipalities in the province of Samar. These are the entries from the Municipalities of Calbiga, Sta. Rita, Villareal, Motiong, Daram, Hinabangan, Sta. Margarita, Tagapul-an, Tarangnan, Paranas, San Sebastian, San Jorge, Talalora and Basey.

For creating the Best Float, the Municipality of Basey bagged P50 thousand. The entry of Sta. margarita won the second place with a cash prize of P30,000. While the municipality of Hinabangan won the third place with a cash prize of P20,000.

The prizes were sponsored by Congresswoman Sharee Ann Tan and Samar Governor Mila Tan. (PIA 8) [top]
