Dagupan conducts 5th distribution of GI sheets

By Venus May H. Sarmiento

Dagupan City (19 August) -- A total of 726 families from nine barangays of this city received G.I sheets and other construction materials in the fifth distribution scheme of the Arroyo government to rehabilitate houses torn down by typhoon Cosme in May.

Residents of barangays Carael, Mamalingling, Mayombo, Malued, Tapuac, Bolosan, Salisay, Lasip Chico and Lucao came early at the Dagupan City poolside for the distribution of G.I sheets coming from the national government and pieces of lumber and nails courtesy of fourth district Congressman Jose De Venecia,Jr who led the distribution Thursday morning.

City Social Welfare Officer Elsa Santillan said there will be more distributions coming up for other barangays. Her office, together with the 31 barangay captains of the city identified the beneficiaries of the construction materials.

City Mayor Alipio Fernandez said it is important that houses are clean and sanitary so that family members, especially children will not be prone to diseases and sickness.

"No walay atep na abong, malinis ya abong tan malinis ya panagbilay, arawi tayo ed antokaman ya sakit" (If a house has a roof, a house is clean and a family is practicing clean living, we will not be prone to sickness), Fernandez said.

Fernandez also thanked the barangay and city health workers who have been tirelessly helping implement government projects.

"Anggapo lay mansakit lapod ag naasikaso. Anggapo lay mansakit lapod nababasa ta anggapoy tarong na abong to," (No one will get sick because he was not given attention. No one will get sick because of getting wet caused by a roofless house), Fernandez added.

Fernandez underscored the city health programs including the feeding, immunization and deworming programs and giving of Philhealth cards to 7,200 families. He also instructed the BHWs to orient and train residents on how to properly use the Philhealth cards.

Citing the city's banner theme of 'Higit sa Lahat, Tao" he stresses that the person is the most important consideration of all.

He also enjoined all parents to be good models to their children because the children mirror their future attitudes based on what they see from their parents. (PIA-Pangasinan) [top]
