Dagupan BHW is regional entry for Outstanding Volunteer Search

Dagupan City (19 August) -- A barangay health worker federation president from this city is the regional entry in the 2008 Search for Outstanding Volunteer launched by the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency.
Roberta "Bing Biazon", 63 years oldwho has been a barangay health worker since 1979, was the city's entry to the regional search. Showing good records and achievements, she became the region's entry to the national level.
Biazon was also a barangay nutrition scholar president from 1979-1989 and the community health worker president from 1979 until now.
Her duties as a BHW include case finding by recognizing early signs and symptoms of a disease and health education for treatment, self-care and preventing disability.
City Medical Officer Dr.Evelyn Dy and fellow health workers attested that as early as 6 a.m.Biazon is already out in the barangay conducting health house visitations to her barangay mates and providing necessary help earning her the monicker 'Nanay ng Bayan'.
Biazon's achievements in volunteer work were validated last week by the regional search committee comprising of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) as the secretariat and DILG, DSWD, Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Civil Service Commission(CSC) and the Organization for Research and Training (ORT), a non-government organization.
