By Jessie R. Valdez

San Fernando City, La Union (19 August) -- In line with the 2 successive weekend holidays which dates were moved to August 18 and 25 as contained in Presidential Proclamation 1463, Labor Secretary Marianito Duque has issued the implementing pay rules and regulations.

The guideline states that for August 18, a special non-working day applies the policy of no-work, no-pay unless there's a favorable company policy, practice or collective bargaining agreement granting payment on a special day even if there's no work.

If there's work, the pay in the employee's daily rate plus 30 percent for the 1st eight hours of work, and if the work has exceeded 8 hours, plus 30 percent of the hourly rate on said day.

Whereas, if it is the employee's rest day and reports for work, the daily rate plus 50 percent will be applied on the 1st eight hours of work and if it exceeds of eight hours, plus 30 percent of the hourly rate for that day.

For August 25, a regular holiday, the rule says that workers should be paid 100 percent of their regular salary for that day if it is the workers' regular work day and the day is unworked.

But if the employee reports for work, 200 percent of the regular daily rate shall be applied for the 1st eight hours and if there's an excess of 8 hours, plus 30 percent of the hourly rate for the day.

But if it's the rest day of the employee and reports for work, 230 percent of the regular daily rate shall be applied and in excess of eight hours, plus 30 percent of the hourly rate on the said day.

For further verification on the matter, concerned parties are advised to visit the nearest DOLE office in their respective areas. (PIA La Union) [top]
