Cagayan de Oro City (19 August) -- Director General Avelino Razon of the Philippine National Police has called on the members of PNP Region 10 (PNP-10) to continue serving and protecting the citizens of Northern Mindanao.
Razon sounded the call during his visit today to Camp Alagar, this city, to assess the Lanao del Norte crisis that resulted in the loss of civilian lives and destruction of properties in three of its towns over the weekend by elements of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
While it is the task of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to go after renegade MILF members in succeeding operations, it is the PNP's main task to safeguard the citizens from any threat or harm that may come from the MILF.
"I will rely on each PNP-10 personnel, from the Regional Director to the last police officer to do his/her part. Our job of protecting and defending the community will give the AFP time to effectively go after these renegades," he stressed.
Thus, he said the PNP personnel will be principally responsible for the defense and security of population centers where vital installations are concentrated, seats of local governments are located and commerce and industry activities are done.
Meanwhile, Razon said PNP-10 will not be alone in this fight as they will be augmented by the PNP Special Action Force in Manila, who are now on their way to be here in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan Cities in pursuit of the maintenance of peace and order in this part of the region.
Accompanying the PNP Chief was the Police Director for Community Relations to help establish a relief operations center for the more than 10,000 evacuees in the province who left their homes due to the incident.
Also with Razon's party was the Police Director for Investigation who shall oversee the investigation and gathering of evidence needed to pursue cases against MILF Commander Bravo and his group who were responsible for so many deaths, casualties and destruction in the province. (PIA 10) [top]
