Maasin City dad to receive award on 33rd DepEd-8 anniversary

Maasin City (August 21) -- In appreciation to his initiatives to put forward education development in the city, Maasin City Mayor Maloney Samaco will receive an award of recognition in time with the celebration of the 33rd anniversary of the Department of Education in Region 8 today.
Mayor Maloney Samaco is among the local government units' chief executives who will receive awards from the Department of Education Regional Office in Eastern Visayas. He was also tasked to give the response on behalf of all LGU awardees during the awards ceremony.
Mayor Samaco said the award is not for himself alone but for everybody especially for those who have contributed to the city government's efforts to provide accessibility to education among the constituents in the city. That education program is a priority program of the city government, he further disclosed during his radio program in DyDM.
Early this school year, Mayor Maloney opened the newly established Ibarra National High School to the community and its neighboring barangays of Barangay Ibarra. He also completed the Canlugok Primary School in a far flung Barangay Lunas into a complete elementary school thru the full support from the city government.
Another milestone in education development that took place in the city is the establishment of the Maasin City College (MCC) under the administration of the city government. The education program aims to reach out the indigent students were given the opportunity to get college education at a very minimal tuition fee at the maximum fee of Php 1,200.00 per semester.
The Department of Education is also grateful of the full support given by the city government under the auspices of Mayor Samaco especially during the early stage of the creation of the Maasin City Division and even until today the same strength of support continues to be extended to assure that quality education services can be provided to the people.
The city government is generous enough to provide the teachers pay from the Special Education Fund (SEF) coffers for most of the teachers of the said schools and for all the ten teachers at the MCC. (PIA Southern Leyte/esg) [top]
