Commentary: Arroyo's hand of peace does not extend to killers in Mindanao

By Jessie R. Valdez

San Fernando City, La Union (21 August) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will exhaust all means to achieve over-all peace in Mindanao and in the entire country as she presides over marathon security and economic meetings with her Cabinet.

The Arroyo government has shown that it is bent to appease and accommodate the MILF rebels with the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain but this has been abused with the latest attacks of the MILF on several towns in Lanao, Basilan and nearby provinces.

In the past, they were accorded maximum tolerance by the government whenever the MILF and the government forces had minor clashes knowing that these were done by rogue elements but they've gone too far, so abusive and have committed a violation of the law.

The government has no choice but to show that the MILF can't evade punishment because of their illegal and treacherous acts. The government has placed already a total of P10-million bounty on the heads of Kato and Bravo at P5-million each.

The Arroyo government will take all actions against the MILF to give justice to innocent civilians and soldiers killed who sacrificed their lives in defending the country's terrorists in Mindanao.

The MILF rebels attacked several villages, burned and looted several houses, ambushed military soldiers and killed several civilians. (PIA La Union) [top]
