NCPW aspires for Guinness world record, nationwide simultaneous whistle-blowing

By Jonnie H. Buenaventura

Tacloban City (21 August) -- The 14th year celebration of the National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW), which will be celebrated on September 1-7, 2008 per Presidential Proclamation No. 461 signed by then President Fidel V. Ramos on August 31, 1994 declaring the first week of September of every year as National Crime Prevention Week, is gaining support nationwide to establish a Guinness world record in the history of the world for the most number of persons who simultaneously whistle-blow.

According to Joseph Mar Gil, Regional Director National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM), the making of Guinness world record throughout the world who whistle-blow the most can be achieved during the Kick-off celebration of the National Crime Prevention Week which will be celebrated on September 1, 2008 at 8:00 o'clock in the morning at Tacloban City Convention Center coinciding with the celebration of the Civil Service Month.

The nationwide simultaneous whistle-blowing will be done at 10:00 to 10:05 o'clock in the morning which signals the peace covenant of all sectors of society to fight all forms of criminality and achieve a long-lasting peace, Dir. Gil said.

Director Gil added that the target participants in Tacloban City who will join the crusade to establish a Guinness world record in the history of the world is 5,000 which include the civil servants, students and non-government organizations.

The celebration, according to Director Gil will be formed into two groups, the first of which will meet at San Fernando Central School while the other group at Coca-Cola junction. At around 7 o'clock in the morning the two groups will simultaneously march and converge at Tacloban City Convention Center where the program proper will be celebrated at exactly 8 o'clock in the morning.

Director Gil further stated that this 14th year celebration is anchored to the youth dubbed as "Kapit-Bisig Kabataan Tungo sa Kapayapaan, Now Na!" to give them importance and in order to ensure active support and cooperation of the school authorities and the student community in the crime prevention programs of the government and to develop a sense of commitment in the students by encouraging their involvement and participation, especially the student leaders and officers who must take the lead in the maintenance and promotion of peace, law and order inside and outside the school.

Crime prevention is not only confined in a week's time but is a continuous aspect of human life to fight all forms of illegal acts and defray from committing such act because it is a crime both to the divine law and the human law regardless of your religion. (PIA-8) [top]
