DOH Northern Mindanao response team, medicines now in Lanao evacuation centers

Cagayan de Oro City (21 August) -- The DOH-Center for Health Development in Northern Mindanao sent its Disaster Response Team early last Tuesday, August 19, this year to help manage the evacuation centers in Lanao Norte and Iligan City due the armed attack staged by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
Led by Dr. David Mendoza, Chief of the the Health Emergency Management Staff at the DOH-CHD NM, the Disaster Response Team of the DOH X brought medical supplies and medicines with them and immediately went to work helping manage the evacuation centers under the Local Government Units of Iligan City and Lanao Norte.
As of 8 pm last night, Dr. Mendoza reported that there is an utter lack of basic necessities such as blankets, mats, toiletries aside from food and mediines.
Dr. Mendoza recommended to the Local Government Units of Iligan and Lanao Norte to decongest the six (6) evacuation centers to avoid possible spread of diseases within the evacuation areas.
As of last night, there are 4,226 families occupying the 6 (six) evacuation centers with a total of 18,545 families.
The DOH CHD NM Response Team conducted an ocular inspection of the evacuation centers immediately upon their arrival and observed that there is a poor sanitation in all sites. (DOH-X) [top]
