by Emiliano G. Galban, Jr.
Cagayan de Oro City (21 August) -- Regional Director Jaise S. Bernadas of the Department of Health - Center for Health Development in Northern Mindanao went off to Iligan City to personally inspect the different evacuation centers and confer with officials of the concerned Local Government Units in the areas affected with the armed attack of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in Lanao del Norte bringing additional drugs and medicines for the evacuees.
Director Bernadas' action was prompted by the reports received earlier from the DOH X Response Team led by Dr. David Mendoza detailing the poor condition and sanitation in all 6 sites.
It was recommended by the DOH Response Team that the evacuation centers should be decongested to the minimum standards in order to avoid possible outbreak of diseases.
With Director Bernadas is Dr. Jose Chan, the Officer-In-Charge of the Northern Mindanao Medial Center who will help assess the situation and oversee operations of the different evacuation centers.
As of last night, a total of 4,226 families are now in 6 evacuation centers in Lanao Norte and Iligan City with a total of 18.545 individuals. (DOH-X) [top]
