TESDA set to mark 14th anniversary in R-10

by Trell Carrasco-Moya

Announces regional winners in search for best blue-collar worker and tech-voc partner

Cagayan de Oro City (21 August) -- The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) turns another leaf as a government agency as it celebrates its 14th founding anniversary this August 25, 2008 with the theme: "TESDA sa ikalabing-apat: kasanayan walang katapat, kabuhayan angat sa lahat!"

TESDA-10 OIC Regional Director Ofelia M. Del Bando said that this year's national theme underscores the importance of technical-vocational education and training (TVET) in developing globally competitive skilled workers and in contributing to overall national economic development. The theme also highlights TESDA's seek-find-train strategy under the stewardship of Secretary Augusto Boboy Syjuco.

In Region 10, the TESDA operating units will mark the 14th anniversary with modest fellowship programs of TESDA employees and TVET partners, sportsfest, tri-media exposure, and other related activities to promote the blue-collar occupations.

Created in 1994 through R. A. 7796, TESDA is a merger of the National Manpower and Youth Council, the Bureau of Technical Vocational Education of the then Department of Education, Culture and Sports and the apprenticeship program of the DOLE.

Del Bando announced that Prof. Alfredo C. Lopez of the St. Laurence Technological Institute, Iligan City won the prestigious 2008 regional search for the President Ramon Magsaysay Outstanding Filipino Worker Award (PRMOFWA) self-employed category. PRMOFWA is government's concrete recognition of the important role played by Filipino workers who are honest, hardworking, persevering and highly successful in their respective fields toward achieving the country's economic goals in support of national development.

Meanwhile, Pilmico Foods Corp., also of Iligan City won the 2008 Kabalikat Search, a reward mechanism that recognizes its partners in middle-level skills development.

Prof. Lopez and Pilmico will be honored at the TESDA Central Office in a formal ceremony on August 21, 2008. (TESDA-10/RAGCOM) [top]
