Dipolog City (21 August) -- After consulting the regional governors of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) in Mindanao, the local chief executives of the provincial government of Zamboanga del Norte, Dipolog and Dapitan cities, and the military and police officials in the province, the 17th Mindanao Business Conference (MINBIZCON) will definitely proceed as scheduled on Aug. 27-29 in Dipolog City.
Dipolog Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) president Edgar M. Bagarinao bared that the local chamber, which will be hosting the event, "has prepared well and is ready to receive delegates and guests coming over for the business conference."
The host chamber has also received full backing from the provincial government led by Gov. Rolando E. Yebes, the city government of Dipolog headed by Mayor Evelyn T. Uy, and the city government of Dapitan with Mayor Dominador Jalosjos Jr. who all serve as co-sponsors of the activity.
Despite the recent atrocities perpetrated by MILF rebels in Lanao del Norte, the delegates who have earlier confirmed their attendance "are really coming for the event," according to Edwin Capili, PCCI regional governor for Western Mindanao.
DCCI's official statement that announces to pursue the scheduled gathering of Mindanao businessmen, partly reads: The Dipolog Chamber of Commerce and Industry is one with the people of Dipolog, Dapitan and Zamboanga del Norte in claiming that our place is among the most peaceful places in Mindanao and that we would like to take this opportunity to prove to the Filipino people and to the world that this part of Mindanao is indeed peaceful and secure.
Both the police and military officials have also assured that full security be afforded during the whole duration of the event.
To allay fears that Moro rebels may sneak in the city, Bagarinao emphatically said, "We should not be cowed with the threats of terror as this will only give victory to terrorists."
The 17th MINBIZCON will tackle topics like business and investment opportunities in Zamboanga del Norte, strengthening public-private sector support to agribusiness development, improving logistics for the agribusiness sector, connecting Mindanao to world and many more. (PIA-ZN) [top]
