Region 8 crystallizes activities for National Crime Prevention Week on September 1-7
Tacloban City (August 25) -- In line with this year's theme "Kapit Bisig Kabataan Tungo sa Kapayapaan," the various activities for the 14th National Crime Prevention Week celebration in Region 8 on September 1-7 shall focus on the involvement of the youth in crime prevention.
In a meeting called for by Napolcom Regional Director Josephmar Gil recently, the various agencies concerned agreed to crystallize the planned activities in support to the National Crime Prevention Week celebration.
From August 15-September 7, publicity and advocacy campaigns like the display of the National Crime Prevention Week streamers, press releases, media interviews, distribution of crime prevention information and education materials will be conducted with the Philippine Information Agency and Napolcom as lead agencies and with all the Regional Peace and Order Council Member Agencies, NGOs and LGUs supporting.
On September 1, the Kickoff activities will start at 8:00 o'clock in the morning with the "Kalakat Para Han Kamurayawan" (Walk for Peace). The convergence will be done at the Tacloban City Convention Center for the Kickoff program with the Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, Tacloban City Peace and Order Council and the Philippine Information Agency as the lead agencies.
At 10:00 to 10:05 in the morning, Region 8 will join in the nationwide simultaneous Whistle Blowing, a youth activity that signals the fight against crime.
On September 2, a drug abuse prevention symposium will be conducted by the PDEA and PNP at San Jose Tacloban City. This will be supported by the Leyte Colleges College of Criminology.
An Ugnayan ng Pulisya, barangay at Kabataan activity will be conducted on September 3 at Barangay 64 Sagkahan Gym with the PNP PCRD, DILG, TCPO and SK as lead agencies and with the Technical Working Committee of the National Crime Prevention Week supporting.
Another Drug Abuse Prevention symposium will be conducted on September 4 with the Department of Education and CHED providing the support.
On Friday, September 5, PIA will conduct a Forum on Crime Prevention with the media, the youth and the peace officers while on September 6, a Seminar on Crime Prevention and Control for Student Council Officers of the different universities and colleges in Tacloban City will be conducted with Napolcom, PNP, CHED and DepEd as lead agencies.
The closing program and awarding ceremonies will also be conducted on September 6, with DILG and the concerned agencies. (PIA 8) [top]
