Tagalog News: PGMA pinangunahan ang centennial celebration ng Philippines Free Press

Koronadal City (27 August) -- Ang Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ang pangunahing panauhing pandangal at tagapagsalita sa pagdiriwang ng 100th anibersaryo ng Philippine Free Press, ang pinakalumang news weekly ng bansa na may pangunahing papel na ginagampanan sa Philippine media. Ang venue ng selebrasyon ay sa Mandarin Oriental Manila, Makati City.

Si Free Press President Enrique Locsin ay nanguna sa toast bilang tanda ng pang-isangdaang taon ng Philippines Free Press sa pagiging champion sa common good sa pamamagitan ng pagpapangatawan sa integridad, demokrasya, mabuting pamamahala at Philippine independence.

Ang unang issue ng Philippines Free Press ay lumabas noong August 29, 1908. Ipinatayo ni Robert McCulloch Dick na isang Scottish at dating editor sa Manila Times na pag-aari ng isang Amerikano. Ang Philippines Free Press ay isang English-language magazine na ipinatayo noong taong 1907 ngunit naipasara matapos magpalabas ng ilang mga issue.

Ang Philippines Free Press ay naisara noong 1972 nang maideklara ang martial law subalit nakapagpalabas pa ito ng kopya bago ang February 1986 snap elections. Simula noon ay patuloy na ang commitment nito sa mabuting pamamahala at public interest. (apple/PIA 12) [top]
