Iloilo OTOP fair to showcase best products
Iloilo City (29 August) -- The Iloilo One Town, One Product (OTOP) Fair will showcase the best products of the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Iloilo when it opens on September 1 to 7, 2008 at the Ground Circle of Robinson's Place Iloilo.
The week-long activity is organized by the Department of Trade and Industry in cooperation with the Small Medium Enterprises Development (SMED) Foundation, Inc. and the Province and City of Iloilo as a continuing effort to promote and develop the MSMEs in the province.
The Iloilo SMED Foundation, Inc. is a multi-agency entity composed of government and private sector representatives that contributes to the promotion and development of MSMEs.
According to the DTI-Iloilo around 25 MSMEs will join this year's trade fair. Seventeen exhibitors are OTOP and 8 are non-OTOP categorized into food sector, 16, hand woven products 2, gifts and house wares 5 and organic and herbal products.
Presidential Assistant for Western Visayas Dr. Raul Banias will keynote the opening program at 4:00 p.m. on September 1. Also expected to be present are Governor Niel D. Tupas, Mayor Jerry Trenas, municipal mayors of Iloilo and officers of the SMED Foundation and DTI.
Invited to perform during the program are selected dancers and drummers of Tribu Kasag of the municipality of Banate.
Kasag, the local term for the steamed blue crab which is the OTOP of Banate has been adopted as the name of the festival of the municipality. (DTI/PIA) [top]
