TESDA celebrates 14th anniversary

Tuguegarao City (29 August) -- In line with the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Region 2's 14th anniversary celebration this August, the office has enhanced and activated its programs to reach out to the unemployed and unskilled individuals.

Ms. Annette B. Acorda, Technical Skills and Dev't Specialist said major undertakings of the office include Free Assessment Service of TESDA (FAST), implementation of PGMA programs for technical and vocational courses and awarding of scholarship certificates to deserving applicants.

Under the Handog Pangulo Program, Galing Masahista and Galing Mekaniko Trainings were conducted in the municipalities of Sta. Praxedes, Amulung, Baggao, Peņablanca, and Sto. Niņo all in Cagayan that catered to some 272 beneficiaries.

"Masahista trainees were given free 'Kikay Kits' or massage kit while mechanic trainees were given bags of tools which they can use to start a small business immediately after their skills trainings," Acorda said.

She also mentioned that the 3 Congressmen of Cagayan province have given some P4.5 million from their Public Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) for the scholarship grants of interested and deserving applicants from their congressional districts.

She said 391 trainees benefited from the PGMA-Training for Work Program. 90 of whom were Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and 74 were instructors from public and private institutions.

Acorda also said that TESDA recently opened the Korea Culture and Language Training program for interested applicants who want to avail of jobs in Korea.

TESDA likewise offers masonry, carpentry, building wiring installation, welding, electronics servicing, slaughtering, housekeeping, cooking, health care services and language skills training programs.

The theme of this year' celebration is "TESDA sa Ikalabing-apat, Kasanayan Walang Katapat, Kabuhayan Angat sa Lahat." (PIA Cagayan) [top]
