NCPW observance set Sept. 1-7

Legazpi City (29 August) -- Due recognition to the very important role played by the youth in crime prevention will be the focus in the 14th National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW) observance on September 1-7, 2008.

Spearheaded by member agencies of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) and the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) as lead agency, this year's NCPW observance has for its theme: "Kapit-Bisig Kabataan Tungo sa Kapayapaan, Now Na!".

NAPOLCOM Bicol OIC Pedro Magannon said a "Kick-Off Parade" on Monday, September 1 at 6:00 o'clock in the morning from the Bicol University Laboratory High School Ground will culminate at Peņaranda Park, Old Albay District for the opening program, which will be participated in by RPOC member agencies, private sector and notably the academe - appropriate for the slogan - "Lakad Kabataan Laban sa Kriminalidad".

Magannon said several activities has been lined-up for the NCPW observance in Bicol that include blood-letting, medical and dental mission, and awareness drive on crime and drug abuse prevention and control in selected schools.

The supposed activity highlight - Bicol Youth Congress - scheduled September 4 was reset to September 18 at the same venue Albay Astrodome here, to give ample time for preparation as the activity will be participated by representatives from different schools and out-of-school youth groups from Bicol's six provinces.
