2 Siquijor Magsasaka siyentista join 41 others in Bohol meeting

by Mario E. De la Peņa

Province of Siquijor (29 August) -- The Siquijor's pride Mr. Genaro Suan of Tambisan and Mrs. Fedelita Dagumo of Tagmanucan, Lazi joined other Magsasaka Siyentista (MS) in Region 7 for an organizational meeting of 43 MS. The activity was held at ProFITS AV Hall, Dao, Tagbilaran City, Bohol last August 8, 2008.

The gathering of MS was purposely made to give them a voice and opportunity to draw support and linkage with other member agencies and experts from different institutions. In the recently concluded Techno Gabay Summit last July 10, 2008 at SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City, MS who were present during the occasion submitted to the DOST a resolution advocating the organization of all the MS into provincial, regional and national MS association.

In the implementation of Techno Gabay Program (TGP) nationwide has gone a long way. In Region 7, it is manifested by the increasing number of municipalities hosting the FITS centers in different provinces of the region. There are now 386 Magsasaka Siyentista (MS) all over the country who have committed to serve thousands of farmers to improve their farm productivity and income. In fact, S&T based farms are now established in different areas to strengthen and enhance delivery of information and technology of our MS to other farmers.

This undertaking is in line with the State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA) vow of President Arroyo to energize the agriculture sector.

Philippine agriculture grew by a high 4.7 percent in six months to June as against 3.74 percent in the same period in 2007 as government stepped up farm spending in keeping with the President's agriculture-related SONA thrusts. (FITS Siquijor) [top]
