Davao Light turns over 3rd school building

Davao City (1 November) -- Davao Light and Power Co. turned over last Thursday, October 28, another 4-classroom-single level building to the G. L. Dondoy Elementary School in Cagangohan, Panabo City. It is the third building completed and turned over this year by the electric utility to the beneficiary schools.

The Dondoy project though, is the first building turned over by Davao Light in the north sectors of its franchise this year and the 4th in Panabo City alone since 1996. It is part of Davao Light's continuing support to the Department of Education's "Adopt-a-School" program.

Like in previous school infrastructure donations each building whether 3-or 4-classroom, are provided with other learning enhancing facilities as armchairs, black boards, and lighting paraphernalia.

Davao Light's Community Relations Department, the unit at the Aboitiz-owned power distribution utility that overseas the company's social responsibility program, said the G. L. Dondoy Elementary School building donation was implemented in cooperation with the Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (AFI), the social development arm of all companies under the Aboitiz Group. The local government unit (LGU) of Panabo City serves as the project partner.

Davao Light, through AFI, put up a total of over P1.450 million while the Panabo City government under Mayor Jose Silvosa Sr. put up the P400 thousand financial counterpart. The total project cost is P1.850 million. Construction started towards the third week of July this year and was completed first week of September.

Davao Light Vice President Lito Ortiz, AVP and Panabo Branch Manager Arnold Arsolon, AVP and Manager for Corporate Communications and Branding Ross Luga, and Comrel Manager Vic Sumalinog with Panabo City Mayor Silvosa, Councilors Jovito Glodo and Artemio Pude turned over the symbolic key of the building to the Department of Education (DepEd) division officials led by Superintendent Dr. Josephine Fadul, and finally to school principal Mrs. Nenita Palanog. The turnover was also witnessed by Cagangohan barangay officials led by Captain Russel Dumagil.

Also present during the turnover rites were members of the faculty, some parents and students of the elementary school. (DLPC) [top]
