Green Philippines campaign awaits youth's participation to make it happen

San Fernando City, La Union (3 November) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is tapping the youth - being the hope of the future generation, where hope lies not just for their well-being but also for the revival of the worsening deforestation in the country.
She urged them to be the strong partners of the government in the pursuit of reviving the forest and replenishing the trees for the protection of our country's lands and to aid in the alarming or worsening pollution condition brought about by exhaust - spewing vehicles and smokestacks from factories and industries.
The aim to beautify our trashy barangays and cities is now focused on building more urban parks and recreation areas, purifying our water, as well as cleaning up unhealthy and eye-sore industrial sites.
Green Philippines also aims to free us from too much dependence on imported oil products and become energy-efficient nation; reviving the coral reefs and beaches and turning them into international sanctuaries for eco-tourism and scientific research.
This noble purpose of the Green Philippines campaign is an urgent call for these young leaders especially the Sangguniang Kabataan to make it happen in three years.
As the President made this call for action, she expressed full confidence that our country's youth will not neglect the Philippines nor abandon the future. (PIA La Union) [top]
