ARMM food caravan expected to strengthen DA's program implementation

ICC Cotabato City (3 November) -- The Department of Agriculture & Fisheries (DAF-ARMM) will spearhead the conduct of the ARMM Food Caravan on Novenber 6, 2008 at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex, ORG Compund here in the city.
The expected participants are farmers, stakeholders, agricultural extension workers and attached agencies from Maguindanao, Shariff Kabunsuan, and Lanao del Sur, this is according to DAF-ARMM Secretary Keise T. Usman, in his briefing with ARMM Governor Datu Zaldy Uy Ampatuan recently.
The caravan will highlight the program iniated by Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's FIELDS(Fertilizer, Irrigation, Extension & Education, Loans, Dryers & other Post-Harvest Facilities and Seeds.) this is through the DA, targeting the achievements of food security and food sufficiency for the country. This was one of the main agendas during President Arroyo's State of the Nation Address last July 2008 and National Food Summit at Clark Field, Pampanga.
Distribution of Certified Palay Seeds to farmers as identified by the respective municipal agricultural officers (MAOs) under the Seed Subsidy Program. Distribution will be led by National Secretary Arthur C. Yap, Gov. Zaldy Ampatuan, Sec. Usman and other DAF-ARMM key players. The farmers will only bestow P446.00/sack compatred to its annual market price of P1, 200/BAG. The remaining cost will be shouldered by the Department of Agriculture. These are also part of the caravan.
Important matters concerning the various programs of the agri-fishery department focused on delivering quality agri-fishery services and other concerns will be discussed during an open forum.
On the other hand, a press conference will be conducte to be led by the Bureau of Public Information-ARMM and DAF-ARMM with tri-media practitioners in the rgion anf nearby places with the officials/stakeholders will be done in order to widen the information dissemination coverage and awareness of the people towards the DA programs.
Product displays, video showing focused on the FIELDS Program by the department, attached agencies NIA, NFA, CDA, Land Bank of the Philippines, Quedancor) and other key players will be featured during this important event. (PIA) [top]
