Team Dipolog bags regional quiz bee

Dipolog City (4 November) -- The nine-man team of the Dipolog City division who attended the 29th Regional Super Quiz Bee at Tetuan Central School, Zamboanga City last October 23 came home with major honors from the said "longest running and most prestigious" competition.

Al-Habbyel B. Yusoph of the Zamboanga del Norte National High School here beat other contestants in the Science and Technology category to emerge as champion. "It was the question on transplantation of animal organs to humans that gave me the edge. I was the only one who got it correctly," said Yusoph in an interview.

In elementary Mathematics, Karl T. Baliton of the Dipolog Pilot Demonstation School came out victorious after getting a perfect score in the five-question difficult round with a weight of three points each.

Jeralph G. Rosal of Sta. Cruz Elementary School landed on the third place after a triple-tie in the Makabayan category of said quiz bee.

The team was headed by division supervisors Gloria Banogon (Makabayan), Dr. Melchora B. Hamoy (Mathematics) and Visminda F. Curabo (Science).

Yusoph together with his coach Dr. Joel Ogoc, and Baliton will represent Zamboanga Peninsula in the national summit of champions at the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) in Tagaytay City on Dec. 4-7, 2008. (PF/PIA-ZN) [top]
