RDCC-10 sends team to visit Munai

ICC Iligan City (4 November) -- The Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC), region 10, has confirmed the complementation of efforts with other national government agencies to visit Munai, Lanao del Norte (LDN) on Nov. 5, 2008.

Thus disclosed Ana Caņeda, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Coordinator for LDN in today's press briefing at the Information Command Center (ICC), Philippine Information Agency, this city.

Caņeda said a team from RDCC-10 member agencies composed of the different national line agencies, such as, the Dept. of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Dept. of Health (DOH), Dept. of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and OCD will see the camp management concerns, especially on health, nutrition, water sanitation and hygiene of the internally displaced persons (IDP) in the area.

Such concerns are the primary issues of Munai which has the most congested evacuation centers, she said, noting that there are certain gaps that the municipal government cannot anymore address.

"We do not want to add to the mortality and morbidity of pneumonia, dehydration and other health issues in Munai, that's why the national agencies are here to address them," she said.

These concerns include the lack of health personnel to administer the job for the DOH which will be hiring more personnel for Munai and Poona Piagapo.

"These gaps need the intervention from the national government agencies such as the RDCC-10 team and we are only hoping and praying that the problem will be resolved," Caņeda also said. (OSM Radyo ng Bayan) [top]
