Community assemblies top Army's 1st CMOU activities
ICC Iligan City (5 November) -- The conduct of community assemblies and dialogues comprised the bulk of accomplishment for the Philippine Army's First Civil Military Operations (CMO) Unit, CMO Group.
Thus disclosed Maj. Benvenido Manquiquis, Commander of the 1st CMOU, CMOG whose unit is based at the Advance Command Post of the First Infantry Division (IID), PA in Maria Cristina, Iligan City.
Manquiquis said the participation of his unit in community assemblies, activities and projects like sports events, cleanliness drives, tree planting, has improved their relationship with the people.
Some of these community projects include the drafting of provincial/ city Integrated Area Community Public Safety Plans such as those of Zamboanga del Sur, Lanao del Sur and Iligan City.
"During these assemblies, we tell the community of the importance of the role of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), particularly in national development and in issues relative to the improvement of peace and order in our area of responsibility (AOR)," he also said.
Meanwhile, a total of 7,056 persons benefitted from the medical and dental civic action program (MEDCAP) initiated by the 1st CMOU, CMOG from the period January to September, this year, in coordination with the other health service agencies of the government and non-governmental organizations (NGO).
Closed coordination with the various offices of the local government units and line government agencies, as well as, the unit's participation in activities initiated by cause-oriented groups, NGO's and peoples organizations within its AOR has also strengthened the relationship of the unit with the stakeholders.
On the other hand, some 1,950 students attended the symposia conducted by 1st CMOU, CMOGS in schools which are aimed at gaining support, cooperation and trust of the people, Manquiquis added. (RCA/PIA 10) [top]
