Quake jolts Bicol

Legazpi City (6 November) -- An earthquake with magnitude 5 on the Richter scale jolted the provinces of Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay and Eastern Samar on Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs instruments recorded the earthquake at about 9:04 AM Thursday with a magnitude of five at the Richter scale with epicenter in Virac, Catanduanes.

Ed Laguerta Phivolcs resident volcanologist said instruments located the earthquake at 13.24 North, 124.58, 54kms South 45 East of Virac Catanduanes with depth of 27 kms.

The quake with intensity 3 under he Rossi Forel scale was felt in the cities of Sorsogon, Legazpi,Virac, Catanduanes and Catarman, Samar.

While the intensity 2 quake was felt in Can-avid Samar.

The agency said the earthquake was of Tectonic origin meaning the quake was triggered by the deformation of earth crust.

The quake rocked the Bicol area for about a second but no one was reported injured and it did not cause any damage to private and public structures. (PIA) [top]
