Maasin City, Southern Leyte (6 November) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Southern Leyte Field Office will conduct an Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) reintegration caravan on November 11-12, 2008 at the municipality of Sogod and in Maasin City, respectively.
Fe Norma Valuis, DOLE Provincial Chief here, reported that the caravan closely coordinated by the National Reintegration Center for OFWs is part of the DOLE service caravans during the 75 days countdown to the DOLE's 75th Anniversary on December 8.
The countdown was launched last September 24 at the DOLE central office in Manila and in various regional offices throughout the country and overseas, Valuis disclosed. The activities include orientation on DOLE programs and services, release of livelihood funds to rural workers associations, lecture on occupational safety, health, labor and information advisory and assistance desk on labor and employment, she added..
The reintegration caravan, according to Valuis aims to increase the people's awareness about the various reintegration services that can be availed by the OFWs and their families and make these services accessible to them, Valuis explained.
Some of the program services are skills training, legal assistance, learning sessions on financial management, savings mobilization schemes and job facilitation services for local or overseas employment.
The reintegration caravan would be an opportunity for OFWs and their families in Southern Leyte to learn various productive ways to invest their dollar earnings, especially in the height of global financial crunch, Valuis quoted Forter G. Puguon DOLE Regional Director based in Tacloban City. (PIA-Southern Leyte) [top]
