Mayor picks new ambulance for Batuan

by Rey Anthony Chiu

Tagbilaran City (7 November) -- Batuan wins an ambulance and Mayor Grecoria Pepito could not help but cry over her luck.

The lady mayor could not believe her luck when the rolled paper she picked contained the lucky mark that earned for her town a brand new ambulance worth more than a million pesos.

"For a long time, Batuan has been wanting to get an ambulance, I have to be personally going to PCSO manila to follow-up requests, was asked P15T for it and still could not get what we wished," Pepito confessed.

"This would be the answer to all our prayers," she added.

Pepito was just one of the 24 mayors who have to implore for luck as the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Bohol Chapter decided to put the ambulance for raffle.

"The ambulance is from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and the LMP has to determine which town would get the medical mobility support equipment," Chapter President Exuperio Lloren said.

League executive Vice President Roberto Salinas proposed the league to craft the ground rules, which the league did after brief deliberations.

The league members agreed that only those without an ambulance or those struggling to keep an old ambulance running would be qualified for the draw.

They also agreed that towns not represented by their mayors during the meeting were automatically disqualified.

After the round rules were agreed, only 24 mayors of Bohol's 47 towns qualified.

The drawing of lots however did not escape a hitch.

It would have been a raffle retake had not Bien Unido Mayor Rey Nino Boniel literally gave away the chance to dispute the million-peso decision for Batuan. (PIA) [top]
