by Joven Mark T. Mapait

Koronadal City (10 November) -- The Department of Labor and Employment in Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOLE-ARMM) intensifies implementation of its programs and projects to maintain the healthy and harmonious relationship between labor and management.

The labor department programs include employment and manpower development, workers protection and welfare, workers amelioration and welfare, maintenance of industrial peace and support services

Under the agency's Employment Promotion and Manpower Development, from October 2005 to September this year, DOLE-ARMM had solicited a total of 1546 job vacancies from different establishments in the region. It registered almost 2000 applicants; referred 1541 applicants; and placed about 1381 applicants to different offices within the region.

Through the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), it had placed 855 students to different establishments and other government agencies in the area of autonomy.

Noraidah M. Tamano, Planning Officer II said they have conducted inspections to about 321 private establishments to monitor and evaluate compliance of the Labor Standards such as Wage Orders passed and approved by the ARMM Wage Board.

On the maintenance of industrial peace, DOLE-ARMM has filed 10 new cases before the Mediation-Arbitration Unit involving unpaid wages, recovery of money claims, illegal suspension, separation pay and other benefits. Said cases were either dismissed or settled amicably.

Based on the agency reports, there is no pending labor case filed before said office as of this date.

During the celebration of the 106th Labor Day Celebration, the department came up with "Libreng Tawag sa Abroad ng OFWs Kapamilya and Kapuso" sponsored by Smart Communications which benefited 373 families of OFWs.

Recently, one labor union the SAMAMIN (Samahan ng mga Manggagawa sa Mintex). has ben duly registered with the office. Its registration had resulted in the acquisition of its legal personality and entitlement to the rights and privileges granted by law to legitimate labor organizations. (RICC/PIA 12) [top]
