ACT for Peace gives 500 copies of MMA #25 to DILG-ARMM
Koronadal City (10 November) -- The ACT for Peace Programme turned-over 500 copies of the Local Government Code of ARMM or Muslim Mindanao Act No. 25 to the DILG-ARMM last Thursday, November 6, 2008.
The ACT for Peace-ARMM represented by ARMM Area Manager Suharto Abas and Regional Programme Director Kamaludin Laguiab, Jr. handed over the copies of the Code to ARMM Regional Vice Governor and DILG Secretary Ansaruddin Adiong and Director Rubi D. Sahi of the DILG-ARMM Technical Services.
Director Sahi said that they have a shortage of copies of the Code which is very relevant as basis for the functions and responsibilities of the Local Government Units and its officials which prompted them to draw up a proposal which the ACT for Peace Programme duly approved.
"This is part of the policy direction of our Regional Governor Datu Zaldy Uy Ampatuan in the implementation of his policy programs," Sahi said.
He also recalled that as far as he can remember, the last distribution of copies of this code was way back in 1993 and that up to the present many LGUs, agencies, newly elected officials and researchers are asking for copies.
Act for Peace Programme manager Suharto Abas said that with their partnership with DILG-ARMM specially in the strengthening of barangay governance and the Barangay Disaster Coordinating Council the problem had come up.
"During the seminars and trainings, we really felt the need for more copies of the code as it is a relevant basis for such activities," Abas said.
"In our keen pursuit for peace-building in Mindanao, we extend our full support with DILG-ARMM in its efforts for good governance," he added.
ARMM Vice Governor Ansaruddin Adiong thanked the ACT for Peace after accepting the 500 copies of the code.
"I would like to express my utmost gratitude to our partners in the ACT for Peace Programme for this significant contribution in our efforts and programs for good governance for our LGUs," Adiong said.
"This is a very great help to the policy directions of Regional Governor Datu Zaldy Uy Ampatuan's administration," he added. (bpi-armm/PIA 12) [top]
