DOLE distributes checks, educational packs
Iloilo (10 November) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here in Western Visayas distributed checks and educational packs when its caravan of services rolled into this province recently.
Some 40 school children of Jovellar Elementary School received educational packs when the caravan kicked-off in Brgy. Jovellar in the municipality of Igbaras last November 4. Also 22 high school students of the said town received pocket dictionaries.
DOLE 6 Information Officer Amalia Judicpa reported that these children have been removed from child labor and are now pursuing their education.
During the event, the Igbaras Mango Growers and Producers also received a check from DOLE intended for the conduct of training on mango handling, packaging and processing.
Judicpa said the department's livelihood assistance to the group has already reached a total of P493,000 which will benefit some 24 mango growers and producers of the town.
On the other hand, more than 50 residents availed of the medical mission conducted in partnership with the local government unit of Igbaras.
DOLE also turned-over to the local government of Passi City a check worth P300,000 for the skills training on shoe, sandal and slippers making during the caravan's stop at Brgy.Man-it, Passi City last November 6.
Other highlights of the caravan in Passi City were the Job Fair and a forum for those who are interested in Kabuhayan or livelihood project.
Both events were attended by the local chief executives of the said towns - Igabaras Mayor Jaime Esmeralda and Passi City Mayor Elyzer Chavez.
The Caravan of Services in the region is spearheaded by DOLE 6 which is participated in by its different attached agencies as part of the commemoration of the department's 75th anniversary this year. It is set to culminate in Ibajay, Aklan on November 26. (PIA) [top]
