29-IB encounters LMG in Wao, Lanao Sur

ICC Iligan City (10 November) -- Troops of the 29 Infantry Battalion (29IB), Philippine Army has encountered more or less 100 elements of the lawless MILF group (LMG) at Sitio Magampong, Barangay Park Area in the municipality of Wao, Lanao del Sur (LDS).

Thus disclosed Lt. Col. Agane Adriatico, Civil Military Operations (CMO) Chief, G7, First Infantry Division at their Advance Command Post (ACP) in Ditucalan, Maria Cristina, this city.

The 29IB under Lt. Col. Benedict Arevalo were conducting their standard security operations when they chanced upon the LMG in the area who engaged them in a firefight that lasted for almost 2 hours.

However, there were no reported casualties on the government side, the CMO Chief of IID said.

In the past few days, the LMG with more or less 200 member were monitored within the boundaries of Bumbaran and Wao, both of LDS and were threatening to stage an attack on military installations and municipalities within the area.

It was later reported that there are those who left the place for fear of being hit by the crossfire and stayed with their relatives in the nearby areas, Adriatico added.

The 29IB is under the 3rd Infantry Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division (403rd Bde) of Col. Nicanor Dolojan as Brigade Commander that covers within its area of responsibility the towns of Wao and Bumbaran, LDS in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). (OSM Radyo ng Bayan) [top]
