Increase in traffic volume of nautical highway noted in Dapitan
Dipolog City (11 November) -- Port Manager Atty. Roger Asprer of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) in Dapitan City has reported that the Strong Republic Nautical Highway of Pulauan port recorded an increase of 3,200 percent in the volume of passengers and vehicles going in and out of the province.
According to Asprer, the traffic volume kept increasing each year since the opening of the Strong Republic Nautical Highway at Pulauan port in Dapitan in 2004.
Elated over the report of the PPA on the increase in volume of passengers and vehicles using the nautical highway, Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Tourism, Officer Atty. Ivan Patrick Ang said, "it is an indication that tourist arrivals in the province including the twin cities of Dipolog and Dapitan have also increased.
Ang also expressed optimism that tourism industry in the province would further flourish with the help of the Department of Tourism (DOT).
It can be recalled that during the first term of Zamboanga del Norte Governor Rolando E. Yebes, he sought the transfer of the DOT-IX regional office from Zamboanga City to Dapitan City, where the famous Dakak Park and Beach Resort is.
Yebes is now in his second term as governor of the province.
For this year, the province has become host to a series of national and regional conventions by the different groups because of its favorable peace and order situation. The Philippine Jaycees held its national convention here last month with more than 1,500 delegates attending.
Aside from being the most peaceful province in the region, tourists get attracted to the beautiful spots and beaches around the province more particularly in Dapitan where the national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal was exiled for four years.
Living memories of the national hero during his stay in Dapitan like his house, clinics, irrigation system and others can the visitors see, as these stood more than a century ago. (PIA-ZN) [top]
