CICT to represent RP in ITU

Quezon City (12 November) -- The Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) will represent the Philippines in the 2008 Session of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, on November 12-21, 2008.

The Philippine delegation, led by Secretary Ray Anthony Roxas-Chua III of CICT, is composed of representatives from the public and private sectors. Sec. Roxas-Chua is scheduled to deliver a message on the topic, "ITU Global Cybersecurity Agenda: Towards an International Roadmap for Cybersecurity," during the High-Level Segment (HLS) of the Council.

The HLS provides Ministers from Member States with an opportunity to exchange views on issues of strategic importance to the ITU, as well as on emerging developments in the ICT sector. This year, participants of this meeting will share their perspectives on two main themes: Climate Change and Cybersecurity. This is also an opportunity for Member States to meet on the sidelines to discuss possible bilateral cooperation on ICT.

The ITU Council was established in 1947. It consists of a maximum of 25% of the total number of Member States, elected with due consideration to the equitable distribution of Council seats among the five world regions, namely, the Americas, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australasia. The current Council is comprised of 46 Member States, of which the Philippines is proud to be a member. (CICT) [top]
