Vice gov assumes governorship of Samar as DILG serves preventive suspension of Gov. Tan et al

By Ninfa B Quirante

Catbalogan City (November 12) -- Samar Vice Governor Jesus Redaja assumed governorship of Samar as the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) served the suspension of Samar Governor Milagrosa T Tan and four others.

Yesterday, November 11, 2008, DILG Regional Director William Paler served Sandiganbayan's 4th Division promulgation on July 11 2008 a Resolution placing accused Governor Milagrosa Tan, Provincial Administrative Officer Rolando Montejo, Provincial Accountant Romeo Reales under preventive suspension for ninety days.

The order also included Provincial Budget Officer Maximo Sison and Property Inspection Officer Numeriano Legaspi.

In a talk with DILG official, he said that since Governor Tan was not around to receive the document, DILG posted the document in her office and a copy of which was given to an employee of the Samar provincial government.

Pursuant to Section 46 (a) of the Local Government Code, Redaja was directed to assume in an acting capacity, the Office of the Governor of Western Samar, while Governor Tan's temporary legal capacity subsists.

In addition, Redaja was also directed to comply with the directive of Sandiganbayan Resolution to implement the 90-day preventive suspension of the other provincial officials.

The memorandum was signed by the DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno on October 29, 2008.

In his statement to the media that closely followed the serving of the suspension order, Redaja said he would give priority to health and agriculture, this received an applause from those present in the hall.

Today, as Redaja started his official stint as acting governor, he will meet with all capitol employees. (PIA-Samar) [top]
