Roxas City (12 November) -- President Gloria Macapagal–Arroyo has declared November 2008 as the National Consciousness Month for Punctuality (Respect for the Value of Time) and Civility (Respect for the Rights of Others).
The President has also urged all government offices to observe the month-long celebration with appropriate programs to emphasize the need for the two much-desired virtues.
The declaration is embodied in Proclamation No. 1638 issued on October 8, 2008.
In her call for punctuality, the President said "there is a need for a new breed of Filipino who makes the most of his time and respects the equal rights of their fellowmen to their time and freedom, thus ensuring a responsible citizenry."
The proclamation has also acknowledged the Organized Response for Advancement of Society, Inc. (ORAS) in its effective campaign for the transformation of the habit of Filipinos with respect to the value of time and respect for the right of others.
ORAS is a non-government, non-profit and non-stock organization composed of leaders from all sectors of society. (PIA) [top]
