Roxas City (12 November) -- Two top local officials from Western Visayas commit to deliver health and education services to the people.

Local government officials from Iloilo and Antique provinces were among the LGU officials from the target areas in the country who signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for the implementation of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Iloilo and Antique provinces are among the 26 provinces and 12 cities in the Philippines that are targeted for the 4Ps implementation.

Household-beneficiaries must comply with certain conditions to continue receiving the cash grants.

To avail of said assistance program, parents must ensure that their children attend school at least 85% of the time, and receive vaccinations and health care; pregnant women must receive pre- and post-natal care and be attended during childbirth by a skilled health professional; and parents must attend responsible parenthood seminars, mother's classes, and parent effectiveness seminars.

With the signing of the MOA, the LGUs have vowed to provide and deliver health and education services to enable the 4Ps beneficiaries comply with the conditions of the program.

Accordingly, some of 76 mayors, 18 congressmen, and 19 governors from the provinces of Pangasinan, Isabela, Mt. Province, Kalinga, Nueva Ecija, Quezon, Albay, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, Negros Oriental, Lanao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Saranggani, Surigao del Sur, the ARMM provinces of Maguindanao and Sulu, and the cities of Manila, Quezon, Taguig, Pasig, Navotas, Baguio, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, and Davao have already signed said MOA for project implementation.

Meanwhile, a total of 511,207 households were surveyed already in 162 municipalities in 23 provinces and 6 cities, wherein 244, 057 were processed and identified as potential beneficiaries using the Proxy Means Test and are on the process of validation.

The same online news disclosed that since January this year, some 203, 587 household beneficiaries are receiving their cash assistance amounting to more than P357 million pesos since January 2008.

The target of 321,000 household-beneficiaries of 4Ps will receive cash assistance by December 2008. (PIA) [top]
