Clearing operations in Wao and Bumbaran continue - AFP

ICC Iligan City (12 November) -- Soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Brigade, 4th Infantry Division (403rd Bde), Philippine Army, have continued to conduct clearing operations in the towns of Wao and Bumbaran, Lanao del Sur (LDS).

This, to further secure and protect its residents against the lawless MILF group (LMG) who are operating in the area following their recent encounter with the 29th Infantry Battalion under 403rd Bde that resulted in 10 LMG killed in action and 15 others, wounded in action.

This was revealed by Lt. Col. Agane Adriatico, Division Public Affairs Officer (DPAO) and Spokesperson of the First Infantry Division (IID), PA, during a media briefing at the Information Command Center, Philippine Information Agency, this city.

He said element of the 403rd Bde has served as augmentation forces to IID in the Lanao del Norte campaign to capture LMG leader Bravo and has deployed two (2) of its infantry battalions, particularly, the 8IB and 30IB in the coastal areas of the province for the purpose.

Meanwhile, Adriatico said the law enforcement operation is continuously carried out by the 403rd Bde's men on the ground to ensure that the LMG of the 103 Base Command under Aleem Solaiman Pangalian will be prevented from launching attacks against the innocent civilians in Wao and Bumbaran.

On the other hand, he said the recent encounter has sent hundreds of internally displaced persons (IDP) to seek refuge at the town of Butig where Camp Busra of the MILF is located.

Adriatico said that they are now coordinating their efforts with the concerned agencies of the government in providing relief assistance to IDPs who are now at the evacuation centers in Butig where a continuing peace dialogue is being conducted by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in order to appease the situation.
