Ifugao young legislator bags 'Kampeon ng Kabataan Awards'

Lagawe, Ifugao (15 November) -- A young member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan here bagged the national award for the youth for legislating an ordinance that would help the youth sector improve their quality of life.
Ifugao SK Federation President Jomar Buyuccan received the "Kampeon Ng Kabataan Awards" (KNKA) handed over by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita at the Development Academy of the Philippines recently.
Buyuccan is among the top ten recipients of the nationwide search for the KNKA conducted by the National Youth Commission (NYC). The search aims to honor legislators who have passed and have given significant impact on the improvement of the youth.
According to James Banawol, Legislative Staff of the Provincial Sangguniang Kabataan, the entry for the search is the 'Ordinance Establishing an Educational Scholarship Program to Poor but Deserving Sangguniang Kabataan Officials Enrolled in State Colleges and Universities in the Province of Ifugao and Providing Funds Thereof."
"The ordinance aims to provide for a supplemental assistance to one SK official per municipality in the 11 municipalities of the province of Ifugao", he said.
Banawol further explained that the educational program is dubbed the Sagguniang Kabataan Educational Tertiary Assistance Program to be implemented this semester after all the grantees have been identified.

Buyuccan has deeply acknowledged the support of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan members and the Office of the Governor in the passing and approval of the relevant legislative measure and finally an Ifugao- crafted ordinance has painted its mark in the national arena of legislation" Banawol bared.
