PGMA wants more call centers nationwide

by A. Lumaque

Roxas City (20 November) -- President Gloria Macapagal–Arroyo has instructed the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) to conduct a study on the resources needed by each province to be Information and Communication Technology (ICT)–enabled.

"Gusto natin magkaroon ng maraming call center sa bansa, hindi natin kayang maglagay sa lahat ng inyong bayan, pero sana naman, lahat ng inyong probinsya," President Arroyo said in her speech before the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) at the Manila Hotel last November 19.

The President's directive to CICT was in view of the noted big contribution of the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector in creating new jobs in the country.

In her keynote address, the President also took note of the efforts of LGUs in her jobs generation program and their support to her goal to break the cycle of sending Filipinos abroad to work.

She stressed that the local executives "play a big part" in ensuring food security, peace and security, better health and education for the people as she recognized their continuing support to the national government's efforts to improve the lives of the people, especially the poor. (PIA) [top]
