Mt Province to hold Provincial Meet Dec. 2-6

by Juliet B. Saley

Bontoc, Mt. Province (22 November) -- The holding of a provincial meet is not just a sports competition but a means of fostering unity among the 10 municipalities of the province. It is also one way of helping young people to become responsible citizens.

This year's provincial meet with the theme: "To Strengthen Unity, Development and Discipline through Sports," is scheduled on December 2-6 in this capital town.

According to MSEP Supervisor Rosendo Cacap of Department of Education Division Office, there are 15 events in the elementary and 17 in the secondary level to be participated in by the different athletes from the districts of Barlig, Bauko I, Bauko II, Besao, Bontoc, Natonin, paracelis, Sabangan, Sadanga, Sagada, Tadian I and Tadian II.

In support to this activity, the provincial government allotted P2,000.00 to each of the 12 participating districts. Additional counterpart of the province is the preparation of the playing venues.

The municipal government of the ten municipalities shall provide funds to cover their own athletes' uniforms, transportation expenses and food supplies while the Division Office provides the sports equipment, uniforms and meals of the officiating officials.

Moreover, in support to the sports development of the province, the "Walk for a Gawis ay Mt. Province " which was conducted last October 16 has generated a total collection of P36,770.

This activity was participated in by government employees of the Bontoc Municipal Government, the provincial as well as the national line agencies. Each participant paid a registration fee of P50.00.

Proposed activities where to use the proceeds include sports training, inter-agency sports and to fund some of the activities of the Governor's Cup 2009. (PIA-MP) [top]
