Media tapped to promote Mindanao

By Mai Gevera

Davao City (25 November) -- Media practitioners in Mindanao will convene on November 26 for the Mindanao Summit on Media and Culture at the Royal Mandaya Hotel with the aim to positively promote Davao and Mindanao.

Expected participants are the tri-media, professors from the academe, representatives from national government agencies, tourism officers, and peace advocates.

Initiated by the Department of Tourism and National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the summit is supported by the Philippine Information Agency, Davao Press Club, Davao del Norte Press Club, Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), Office of the Press Secretary, and the Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCO).

The summit is aimed to identify and assess the status, problems and future directions of mass media, culture, tourism, and peace in Mindanao.

Look into and examine ways to solve its problems utilizing mass media, communication, tourism, peace, and culture strategies as well as analyze and improve existing programs and projects of various government and non-government agencies in Mindanao on media, culture and arts, tourism and peace.

The activity would also forge and strengthen strategic partnerships with various government, non-government, media, tourism, peace and culture institutions to address these problems.

To formulate and implement faithfully and seriously a sustainable development plan on media, tourism, peace, and culture for the benefit of its constituents is the final output of the event. (PIA) [top]
