DOLE gives over P1-M for NVizcaya citrus farmers

Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (25 November) -- The Department of Labor and Employment(DOLE) here recently gave more than P1 million to citrus farmers and for the mango processing center.

Pacifico Moralit, DOLE district manager said a funding assistance of more than P1 million was given to the Malabing Valley Citrus Farmers Cooperative(MVCFC) in Kasibu town while P.5 million was allotted for the establishment and operationalization of a mango processing plant in Aritao town.

Moralit said the financial assistance for the citrus farmers will be utilized to rehabilitate the vast citrus plantation in Malabing Valley, known as the citrus capital of the north.

Malabing Valley in Kasibu has been plagued by pests recently which prompted various agencies to join the rehabilitation efforts.

"The fund will be specifically utilized for the purchase of new citrus trees and quarantine procedures to protect and rehabilitate the citrus plantation there," Moralit told PIA.

It is part of a bigger funding assistance by the DOLE which was given on a staggered basis since last year.

The P.5 million, on the other hand will be used to fully develop and equip the mango processing plant in Aritao to boost the income of mango farmers in the province.

The awarding of financial assistance was made during the DOLE information caravan and Overseas Filipino Workers' reintegration program at the provincial capitol. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
