Tacloban City (November 27) -- The Sustainable Tourism Management Plan for Central Philippines will be the main agenda during the December 12 meeting of the Regional Development Council of Eastern Visayas, RDC Chairman and Calbayog City Mayor Mel Senen Sarmiento informed.

The RDC meeting, which is the last for this year, will be held at the Calabria Formation House at Dagum Hills, Calbayog City, and will start at 12:00 o'clock noon, Mayor Sarmiento added.

The Sustainable Tourism Management Plan for Central Visayas which was made by the CHL Consulting Group and funded by Japan Bank for International Cooperation, will be presented by Economic Development Committee Chairman RED Leo P. Caņeda.

Department of Tourism Director Karen Tiopes informed that DOT Director for Planning Rolando Allan Caņizal will be around to make clarifications and enlightenments which the RDC members may require prior to endorsement of the Plan.

It would be recalled that under the Super Region development strategy of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Eastern Visayas belongs to the Central Philippines which is being eyed to become the Tourism Center of the Philippines. The other Regions belonging to Central Philippines Super Region are Regions 5, 6 and 7.

The request for special non-voting membership of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the RDC will be presented by DBM Director Imelda Laceras who is the DAC Chairperson, for approval of the body. Director Laceras will also present the Regional Development Plan Scorecards Monitoring Guide, for approval of the body.

Another matter which will be tackled is the proposed refresher lectures on economics for the Secretariat. This will be presented by RDC Vice Chairman and NEDA Director Buenaventura Go-Soco, Jr.

Ms. Vangie M. Paran of the National Statistical Coordination Board will present the advocacy paper on improving LGU capacity for statistical data coordination.

During the meeting, Director Go-Soco will announce the winners of the RDC Best Website Contest and Galing RDC Award, afterwhich, he will present the Regional Economic Monitoring Team report.

Furthermore, Mayor Sarmiento informed that on the same date, the RDC 8 Christmas Party will be held at the Nijaga Park. This is a way of celebrating the Yuletide Season and an expression of thanks to the RDC members for a productive year, Mayor Sarmiento said. (PIA 8) [top]
