Aleosan IDPs assured of new homes in time for Christmas
ICC Kidapawan City (27 November) -- Civilian and military authorities have assured families who lost their homes during the LMG atrocities in several barangays of Aleosan, Cotabato, in August this year, that they will spend Christmas and New Year at their new homes.
According to Aleosan Mayor Loreto Cabaya, Jr., through the construction materials donated by the US Army, the IDPs themselves with the assistance of army engineers and lbarangay officials have started putting up their houses through bayanihan.
Construction materials donated by the US Army consist of cement, bamboo, GI sheets, lumber and kalakat.
The mayor said that 39 houses will be constructed in barangay Dualing and another 41 in barangay Dunguan, Aleosan town in a 2-hectare land donated by the Cotabato provincial government.
Necessary assistance would be provided by the local government unit to fast track the construction work just to be able to complete the houses before the Christmas season, Mayor Cabaya assured.
"Ang purpose nito ay para masimulan na ang pagbabalik sa normal ang pamumuhay ng mga tao," the mayor said.
Estimated cost of each house is more or less P22,000.
As this developed, Mayor Cabaya said, the local government is considering the possibility of declaring barangay Dunguan as zone of peace.
Meanwhile, the 40th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, will construct 10 units comfort rooms in the areas. (pbc/PIA Cot City) [top]
