Cagayan de Oro 'Bangga sa Daygon' is on

Cagayan de Oro City (27 November) -- Public and private elementary choral groups in Cagayan de Oro City will showcase their talents in a Christmas chorale competition dubbed as "Halad sa Pasko: Bangga sa Daygon 2008" slated on December 16 at the SM Atrium.

"Bangga sa Daygon 2008" is a choral group contest open to all glee clubs and choral groups in all public and private elementary schools in the city organized by the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office, City Tourism Board, in partnership with SM Cagayan de Oro.

The theme of the presentation is left to the discretion of the choral group based on their own interpretation on how to venerate the Holy Child Jesus without desecrating the Child God as the object of worship.

The contest piece must be a Tagalog or Visayan Christmas song. The choral group will render only one piece, medley or single with only live accompaniment shall be allowed and they must provide for their own musical instruments.

The choral group must compose of a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 30 singers, including the instrumentalists. Every choral group is given 10 minutes to perform, excluding the entrance and exit. A deduction of two points for every excess minute will be imposed and five points deduction shall be imposed against any group using flammable materials such as fireworks and pyrotechnics.

The criteria for judging are as follows: voice (40%) - the tonal quality, blending and discipline; rhythm (15%) - timing and precision; choreography (20%) - the creativity, formation, grace, artistry and fluidity of movements; diction (15%) - the pronunciation, clarity of words and coordination; and costume (10%) - the relevance to the theme/concept, choice of color, style and accessories.

The first prize winner will receive P25,000 plus trophy, while the second and third prize winners will receive P20,000 and P15,000 respectively, plus trophy each.

The elimination round will be on December 12, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at the SM Atrium.

The final competitions will be on December 16, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. also at the SM Atrium, SM City, Cagayan de Oro.
