DTI launches biggest IT event in Negros Oriental

Dumaguete City (27 November) -- The biggest information technology event in the province will be rolled out on December 1 and 2, 2008 at the Negros Oriental Convention Center.
Exhibit hours will run from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Admission to the exhibits and special events is free.
The Negros Oriental IT Expo 2008 is conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in cooperation with the Negros Oriental ICT Council and the Negros Oriental Investment Promotion Center.
DTI Provincial Director and Overall Chair of the IT Expo 2008 Javier Fortunato said that the said event will feature exhibits, a conference, and special events such as the Open Programming Competition, Open Web Design Competition, and a DOTA Tournament.
Fortunato said the expo hopes to highlight the capabilities of local IT companies while enabling business to business interaction and generate recruitment opportunities.
The expo will also showcase talented individuals in the province and provide a local venue where students can acquire exposure to the IT industry.
According to Fortunate, the IT industry in the province has grown by leaps and bounds over the last four years. "It now employs around 2,000 people and companies can be found along a 40 km corridor stretching from Bacong all the way to Tanjay City," he said in a letter.

The opening ceremonies is expected to be graced by Governor Emilio C. Macias II along with the three Congressmen in the province and Dumaguete City Mayor Agustin Perdices.
Also expected to give the keynote address is Hon. Ray Anthony Roxas-Chua III, CICT Chairman.
In a related development, Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz of Iligan expressed his gratitude to the practitioners and stakeholders in the field of information technology who responded to the invitation and bringing them together to the 1st Information Communication Technology (ICT) Councils/Foundations/Organizations Summit in Iligan.
Addressing the participants to the 2-day Summit which opened on November 25 Mayor Cruz said that he hopes to have this undertaking a fruitful and rewarding experience to all, a welcome sign for the growth of the ICT industry in general and maximize its benefits and improve the lives and the systems that govern the conduct of the lives of the people.
