Fleet-Marine Team: Exercise Pagsisikap 2008
The Philippine Navy will conduct a five (5)-day fleet-marine training exercise from 02 - 06 December 2008 in Cebu. This exercise, dubbed as "Exercise Pagsisikap 2008," will be undertaken jointly by Naval Forces Central, the Philippine Fleet and the Philippine Marine Corps.
Exercise Pagsisikap 2008 is a demonstration designed to test and evaluate the effectiveness and operational readiness of the Fleet - Marine concept of the Philippine Navy.
It will focus on interoperability evaluation between Fleet and Marine units operating in a littoral environment against internal security threats and external defense operations. This exercise aims to synergize the operational requirements and training capabilities of the various Philippine Navy support units to support special operation missions.
This event will include pre-exercise preparation, STAFFEX (Fleet-Marine Planning Staff), Field Training Exercise (FTX) that focus on Fleet-Marine Operations, and Community Relations (COMREL) activities.
Three (3) floating assets of the Philippine Navy namely, BRP DAGUPAN CITY (LC551), BRP BIENVENIDO SALTING (PG112) and BRP ABRAHAM CAMPO (PG396) with two (2) air assets: Philippine Navy Islander (PNI 320) and a UH1H Huey helicopter from 2nd CTW, PAF, the Naval Special Operation Unit 5 and a Special Operations Platoon from the Marine Battalion Landing Team will be participating during the said exercise. Captain Honorio Robert E Balanon Jr PN (GSC), the Commander, Naval Forces Central, will be the Exercise Director for this exercise.
Major General Ben Dolorfino AFP, the Commandant of the Philippine Marine Corps, will be the Guest of Honor for the opening ceremony. Rear Admiral Geronimo Defensor AFP, the Commander of the Philippine Fleet, will preside over the closing ceremony. (PIA7/hfg/pn) [top]
